Not all physical activities are equally useful. Before purchasing a membership to a local gym or working out on your own, pay attention to a few important factors.

Not all physical activities are equally useful. Before purchasing a membership to a local gym or working out on your own, pay attention to a few important factors.

One of such factors is your age. By ‘age’ we mean both your biological age and chronological age. It’s great to be a 50-year old with a body of a 35-year-old. However, in some instances people who are relatively young, look and act older their actual age.

Is there any logical explanation as to why it happens?  Does it all depend on genetics? Some believe it does. Nevertheless, genetics is not what makes you look older or younger. It all depends on how much effort you put in yourself.

1. Cardio

Beginners as well as inexperienced dieters strongly believe that they will lose weight faster if they start doing cardio on a daily basis. We cannot deny that cardio is effective in a few ways. However, it does not have anything to do with the aging process. On the contrary, it has been proved that cardio sessions speed up the aging process! The longer you do your cardio, the more muscles you break down. Cardio also increases the production of free radicals; the uncharged molecules accelerate aging and damage the cells. If you are doing cardio to strengthen your heart, then you should know that this is not the only kind of exercise that may help you.

2. A Low-Fat Diet

Those who take care of their health and maintain their weight already know that fat is not the key cause of weight gain. Fat does not cause heart disease either. It means that eating low-fat foods is not an option at all. Your body needs fats. The point is to consume healthy fats. It has been proved that people who follow low-fat diets get sicker and fatter after they stop dieting. Fat does not make people bigger. Fat cannot be regarded as your enemy. We must have some fat in our diet if we want to stay healthy and slim. Opt for healthy fats – they are a source of good cholesterol, the substance that helps our body produce hormones to boost our youthful qualities. If your body produces enough of it, your skin looks youthful, glowing and supple. If your diet does not contain any fats, then you do not provide your body with necessary nutrients.
