Many centuries ago people used to build castles. They did it for many different reasons. Thanks to them, we can now learn a lot about people living hundreds of years ago, their lifestyles and routines.
1. Castle Hohenschwangau in Germany. This German castle was built in the 19th century and is also known as Schloss Hohenschwangau. The building was used as a summer residence of King of Prussia Maximilian. The castle suffered no damage during the two world wars since it is located relatively far. At present, the building is looked after by Duke of Bavaria Franz, who is the grandson of Maximilian. Each year more than 300 thousand people visit the castle.
2. Chateau de Chambord in France. The castle belonged to Francois I who used it as a hunting lodge. The structure is incredibly huge. It is famous for its Renaissance architecture, although it is not clear who created the building. In 2007 the 300-year-old castle was opened to the public. Since then, more than 700 thousand people have visited it.
