8. Wilhelmstein Island, Germany
This unusual island located on Lake Steinhude is almost 300 years old. It was artificially created in the 18th century. It took a lot of time for fishermen to carry the stones using their boats to build Wilhelmstein. In the middle of the 18th century the island was turned by Count of Schaumburg-Lippe William into a military fortress. The island is very tiny yet it attracts millions of curious people willing to visit it. Wilhelmstein Island is the largest lake in northwestern Germany which is another bonus for tourists.
